What In Fact is Dedicated Hosting?

When we talk about web hosting servers, there are three basic types - shared website hosting servers, VPS (virtual web servers) and dedicated hosting servers. Shared hosting servers host a lot of customers and thus the resources per user account are restricted, virtual private server accounts offer more server configuration liberty, but also affect other virtual private hosting servers on the hardware node if utilized imprudently, and dedicated servers give you the autonomy to perform everything you wish without intervening with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated hosting server?

Dedicated servers are commonly much more high-priced than shared hosting servers or virtual private hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The explanation is rather simple. If your firm has a resource-requiring online portal, or just has very special web server configuration requirements, the proper choice is a dedicated server. For someone who is inclined to invest in safety and reliability, the greater price is not a concern. You acquire full root access and can use 100 percent of the hosting server's resources without anyone else using these resources and messing with your web sites.

Hardware configurations

Most web hosting providers, incl. us at Intraden, offer different hardware architectures you can choose from as per your needs. The hardware architectures include different varieties of microprocessors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and hard drive sizes and different monthly traffic quotas. You can select a Control Panel, which is a useful GUI if you wish to utilize the web server for website hosting purposes solely and prefer not to resort to an SSH console for all the modifications you will be making. We provide 3 types of web hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The web hosting Control Panel of your choice

If you are a self-reliant Linux user (our web hosting servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could manage your dedicated server via a Secure Shell connection only. That, though, could be inconvenient, particularly if you decide to grant full root-level access to somebody else who has less technical expertise than yourself. This is why having web hosting CP software pre-installed is a bright idea. The Hepsia web hosting Control Panel software tool that we offer does not give you full root privileges and is mostly suitable for somebody who runs a lot of web portals that require lots of resources, but would rather manage the web portals, databases and electronic mail accounts using a user-friendly Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel Control Panels, on the other hand, give you root-level access and offer three access levels - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell hosting plans instead of using the dedicated server solely for yourself, you should pick one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated hosting server and of backing it up. In the event of a problem with your dedicated server, like an unresponsive Apache or an outage, it is useful to have some kind of monitoring system enabled. Here at Intraden the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you have a Managed Services package, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated hosting server as well. Backups are also an extra option - the hosting vendor offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could choose a kind of RAID that would allow you to store the very same data on 2 hard disk drives as a protective measure in the event of a disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have ranted complete server root access erases something accidentally.
